Psalm of Thanksgiving

The Lord is good
His grace has shone on me
The Lord is faithful
His mercy radiates

It seemed as if the law would kill
Legislation barred the way
I thought my hopes had been raised
Elevated so that I would be in dust and ashes at His feet
I thought that joy and miracle would pass
To pain and a barren home
The government decreed injustice
The law said that we would lose our foster son
The contract said that he must be torn from a second home
The agreement stated that he must enter a new and strange world

You heard my complaint
Your ear was inclined listen
You spared us from grief
Sorrow was exchanged for joy

You gave a friend wisdom
From her bitter experience in the past
She knew a Godparent has rights
A Godmother can claim a child
The birthmother was inclined
The agencies saw a path of peace
We became Godparents
A signature upheld our cause

Thank you that a beautiful boy is still with us
Thank you for the joy of playing with him through this day
Thank you for grace that makes us parents
From hearts of thanksgiving we will be God's parents to this child.
